Fisantekraal airport - good positioning?
Category Cape Town second airport
Fisantekraal is 40 mins drive from the CBD of Cape Town along the N1 on a good traffic day.
The spatial dynamics of Cape Town must be playing a part in the positioning of the proposed new airport, namely;
- That the DA led City wants a westward expansion along the N7 for affordable housing and the accompanying City run - My City service
- That the Southern and Eastern Suburbs are becoming over-crowded and densification of these residential suburbs is happening - sectionalizing and sub-division is a continued trend
- That the affordability of the Northern Suburbs versus the Southern Suburbs is a real factor (value for money) driving younger families to move into these suburbs
- That road crowding is a real issue and transporters and distribution centres that can move away from the Port are doing so - along the N7 and N1 corridors
- The proposed second CBD in Bellville to alleviate transport pressure in the City Centre
All in all, it may well be a good cargo destination as well as a commuter hub
