Epping Industrial at a glance

Epping is an industrial area located in Cape Town which was developed post WW2. It took off as an area in the 1950 along with the building of Athlone Power station in the 1960’s.

The Epping name arises from England where in 1253 Henry III granted the right to hold weekly markets and a three day annual fair in Epping Street. This heritage no doubt played a role on the development of one of the oldest and largest the Cape Town Fresh Food Market

It is comprised of two major sections, being 1 and 2, located alongside major arterial roads as well as a rail network which has sidings into larger industrial sites.

The area hosts a number of companies involved in the textile, automotive, logistics, construction, manufacturing and food processing industries.

Epping Industria is managed by the Epping Community Improvement District whereby all owners contribute to the operating costs. The ECID assists the City of Cape Town to look after aspects such as cleaning, security, emergency management and traffic management.
